Newport is the one we'd book for most families. It's a 59-suite resort in the center of Egg Harbor with one- and two-bedroom suites, each with a full kitchen, fireplace and living area, and it has both an indoor and an outdoor heated pool plus indoor and outdoor playgrounds. Crucially it's a walk from Egg Harbor's shops and restaurants, so you're not driving for every meal, and it's open all year. It consistently rates near the top of Door County family lodging for a reason.
With a baby, the two things that make or break a resort for us are a kitchen and an indoor pool, and Newport has both. The kitchen means we're not marching a tired one-year-old into a restaurant three times a day, and the indoor pool saves the afternoon when the wind comes off the bay and the beach is a write-off. A walkable town is the third quiet win: nap in the room, walk out for dinner, no car seat battle.
The big all-in-oneThe Landmark Resort, Egg Harbor
If you'd rather barely leave the property, the Landmark is the peninsula's largest resort: 294 suites on a bluff over Green Bay, with five pools (indoor and outdoor), whirlpools, tennis and pickleball, and an on-site restaurant. It's a self-contained family destination, which is exactly its appeal and its trade-off. You get everything on site, but it's a short drive from town and it runs pricier than Newport. Great for a group or a family that wants a home base with its own amenities; less charming if you came for walkable harbor-town life. (Note their indoor pool has a short annual maintenance closure in late February.)
Best valueWestwood Shores, Sturgeon Bay
Sturgeon Bay is the gateway city, less quaint than the northern towns but noticeably cheaper and open year-round, and Westwood Shores is its best family value: a waterfront resort with an indoor pool and hot tub and consistently high guest ratings. You trade the postcard harbor-town setting for a lower nightly rate and a location that's the first thing you reach coming up the peninsula. A smart pick if the budget's tight or you're using Door County as one stop on a bigger trip.
BudgetOpen Hearth Lodge, Sister Bay
If you just need a clean, cheap base with a pool and don't care about kitchens or frills, Open Hearth Lodge in Sister Bay does that and does it well, with some of the highest guest ratings on the peninsula for a simple lodge. No kitchen and no playground, but it's walkable to Sister Bay (and the goats), has an indoor pool, and costs the least of the four. The right call for a short stay where you're out all day anyway.
